Crosby named to Savannah Tech's board of directors

SAVANNAH — Lamar Crosby of Rincon has joined the Savannah Technical College Board of Directors, the institution’s local governing body.

Crosby served as Effingham County administrator for six years after retiring from a 27-year career in the U.S. Army.

Crosby, a retired infantry colonel, served one tour in Vietnam where, as an infantry platoon leader, he was awarded two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars for valor and the Purple Heart.

He served six years in Germany and five years in the Pentagon where he served on the Army staff and on the Secretary of Defense staff. Other awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal and two Legions of Merit.    

He remains active in the community, recently completing service on the Rincon City Council. Crosby is an active member and past president of the Effingham Rotary Club, serves on the Board of Directors of the Effingham Veterans Park and the Georgia-Pacific Citizens Advisory Panel.  

He is also a member of the advisory board of First Effingham Bank and a former member of the Effingham County YMCA board.

He and his wife Shannon are the parents of an adult son.

The Savannah Technical College Board of Directors is chaired by Don Tomberlin. Rev. Thurmond Tillman serves as vice chair. Savannah Technical College is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia.

The STC Effingham campus is on Highway 21.
