Holbeck receives Sijan Award

Air National Guard Maj. Amy D. Holbeck received the Lance P. Sijan Award for exemplifying outstanding leadership of the highest order. The annual award is given to senior and junior officers and enlisted airmen at the command level and below.

She is the daughter of Dan and Dianne Waters of Cleveland, Tenn., and the daughter-in-law of Elroy and Doris Holbeck of Rincon.

The award is in honor of Air Force 1st Lt. Lance P. Sijan for his bravery, courage, and leadership when he was captured as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam in 1967. He was the first U.S. Air Force Academy graduate to receive posthumously the Medal of Honor and promoted to captain.

Holbeck is currently serving as director of inspections with 116th Air Control Wing, Robins Air Force Base.

Holbeck is a 1992 graduate of Bradley Central High School in Cleveland, Tenn., and earned a bachelor of science in 1997 from Tennessee Technological University.
