Cheryl Ferguson recently spoke to the Rotary Club of Effingham County regarding the GED Initiative Tutors’ program.

Free classes are offered by Savannah Technical College to adult learners seeking their GED. GED Initiative Tutors (also known as GEDi Tutors) are volunteers that work with these adult learners in the classrooms in helping them prepare for the GED tests.

An assessment test is administered by Savannah Tech to determine the level of each student in each area of testing. A curriculum is then designed specifically for each student. GEDi tutors work one-on-one with each student on particular topics in their curriculum.

Math and writing are the most common topics that tutors work on with students. Ferguson shared the requirements for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer.
