On June 14, members of Cub Scout Pack 691 helped Effingham Backpack Buddies prepare food packs for distribution. Bear Cubs Nathan Hall and Marshall Geddings, and Webelos Joshua Edwards assisted seven other volunteers in packing food for 40 families over a two-hour period of time. Effingham Backpack Buddies’ objective is to provide food to hungry children via “backpacks” (food packs) to take home each weekend.

Effingham Backpack Buddies is located at 200 Central Blvd., at the corner of Central Boulevard and Lynn Bonds Avenue in Guyton. During the school year, Effingham Backpack Buddies serves any child that gets free or reduced lunch, or has parents on state assistance. This is done with food received through Second Harvest Food Bank. In addition, if they find a child in need who is not receiving state funds, they will make accommodations through other donations to help that child.

Cub Scout Pack 691 has been part of Zion Lutheran Church in Marlow since 1959. The Pack holds weekly Den Meetings during the School year and hosts various service projects, camp-outs, and events year round.
