State Rep. Ann Purcell (R-Rincon) presented a resolution passed by the General Assembly to Effingham County Hospital Authority member Stephen Mobley at the board’s meeting.

Mobley, who represents the city of Springfield on the hospital authority, served as the authority chairman from 2007-10. Mobley was recognized as an outstanding community, business and civic leader with a deep personal commitment to the “welfare of the citizens of Effingham County.”

He also was the first director of the Effingham County Emergency Medical Service, purchasing the first modern ambulance. The authority members enjoyed comments from previous EMS employees who remembered “the good old days” of running an ambulance service when emergency medical technicians served as orderlies in the hospital and also manned the ambulance service.

Mobley, with his wife Evonne, accepted a resolution from the House of Representatives that recognized his distinguished professional work to develop not only the Effingham County Emergency Medical Service, but to manage the Life Star ambulance service, which at the time was a part of Memorial Health University Medical Center.

“We are very pleased to have such a devoted member of our board of trustees serving with us as we continue to develop and grow a healthcare system to meet the needs of our county, not only for today, but for years to come,” said Hospital Authority Chairman Richard Rafter.
