The Community Cardiovascular Council, the area's stroke and heart attack prevention program, named Nancy C. Morgan of Effingham County as its outstanding volunteer of the year during its 39th annual meeting recently in the Marsh Auditorium of the Candler Hospital.

More than 60 volunteers and partner agencies from Chatham and Effingham counties attended to hear annual progress reports and to honor one of their own.

Morgan was presented the Founder’s Award for her service.

Morgan was honored for her almost 10 years of volunteer work with the CCC’s Blood Pressure Clinic in the United Way Service Center in Rincon and her eight years of service on the CCC board of directors. The award was presented by Dr. James C. Metts Jr., the area chairman of the CCC board.

In presenting the award, Dr. Metts noted the many hours of service provided by Morgan at the clinic where she checks blood pressures, makes patient appointments and generally helps the CCC staff. He also cited her service to the Red Cross, the Senior Citizens Brown Bag Program, the United Way Service Center and her church.

The CCC Founder’s Award is named for Dr. James C. Metts Jr. and the late Dr. John Elliott, the co-founders of the CCC, who volunteered their time and talents to establish the CCC as a viable health care organization beginning in 1969.

The Community Cardiovascular Council is a United Way member agency and a partner of the St. Joseph's/Candler Hospitals.
