The Effingham Community Orchestra will present its fourth annual "Our Favorites" concert and silent auction fundraiser Aug. 24.

Silent auction bidding begins at 2:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 3 p.m. at the Effingham County Recreation and Parks gymnasium at 808 Highway 119 South in Springfield.

Admission is free.

“The orchestra has been preparing for this concert all year by learning new music and reviewing existing repertoire,” said orchestra director Andrea Huff. “Recently, the musicians voted for the pieces they would like to perform at this concert. Attendees will hear Broadway and Disney themes, classical, western, rock and roll and jazz pieces. There will be something for everyone. I sincerely believe this ‘Our Favorites Concert’ will delight and amaze our audience.”

Huff also stated that this will be the first concert performed by the orchestra using a complete set of new, professional-quality music stands.

“This will be an exciting day for us,” she said. “Having quality music stands makes performing easier and more enjoyable for the musicians and enhances our presentation. We sincerely thank our many supporters whose generous donations made the purchase of these music stands possible.”

All proceeds from the auction go toward orchestra expenses.

“This year’s silent auction offers a large number of excellent items,” Huff said. “Professionals and businesses have donated wonderful items and gift certificates for restaurant meals, merchandise and services. Our musicians and volunteers have donated very nice new and high-quality hand-crafted items. I encourage everyone to come spend the afternoon with us at this really fun event.”
