The Rincon Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy. The CPA will begin April 14 and is a 10-week program.

The Citizens Police Academy is designed to create a greater awareness and understanding between the community and the police department. The purpose of this course is to increase the students’ understanding of the mission, procedures, techniques, problems, dangers and experiences of the Rincon Police Department.

Entry requirements are:

• Applicant must be 18 years of age

• Completion of Citizens Police Academy application, which is available at the Rincon Police Department

• Must be willing to submit to a background check

• Must sign a waiver of liability

Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. at the Rincon Police Department, located at 107 W. 17th Street in Rincon.

Applications must be delivered to the Rincon Police Department, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. prior to March 27. The applicant must possess a valid picture ID and the application can be notarized at the Rincon Police Department, only if the applicant is present.

There is no fee for this course. Class size is limited to the first 20 approved applicants. Rincon residents will have priority.
