The Georgia Salzburger Society will begin a year-long celebration marking the 275th anniversary of the arrival of the first Salzburgers to the Georgia colony.

The first Salzburgers landed in Georgia on March 12, 1734, and the Landing Day celebration will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Jerusalem Lutheran Church at Ebenezer. Historian Scott Hodges will be the speaker and will discuss the settlement through the eyes of Gen. James Oglethorpe.

From reviews of journals, letters and writing of the period, he relates the contributions of Oglethorpe to the Salzburgers.

On Sunday, Bishop Julian Gordy will be the pastor at the 11 a.m. service. A slide presentation will feature the history of the church and of Ebenezer during lunch.

Ginger and David Hildebrand will perform music from the colonial era and early Lutheran Church
