Riggs Funeral Home of Guyton announced that office manager Heather Riggs has obtained her funeral director license and embalmer license. She earned the licenses through Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro.

Prior to that, she also obtained her business administrative technology and technical communications specialist degrees. Subsequently, she has also been licensed as an insurance agent. She is the third generation to be employed in the funeral business.

Her grandfather, J. Z. Riggs, worked in the funeral business part-time for most of his life.

Miriam Riggs, Heather’s grandmother, also worked in the funeral business on a part-time basis until her recent death. She mentored Heather in many aspects of the funeral business, especially public relations.

Heather’s father, Merrill Riggs, worked part-time in the funeral business as a teen and then became licensed in 1977 as funeral director and embalmer and has worked at several funeral homes. He presently is CEO/manager of Riggs Funeral Home.
