STC, Imperial Sugar celebrate training program graduates

SAVANNAH — Savannah Technical College and Imperial Sugar announce the graduation ceremony for its first group of graduates.

Beginning in June, Imperial Sugar began a major training collaboration with Savannah Technical College that would prepare employees for the industrial systems and technology expected in the new plant.

Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Crossroads Campus, 24 graduates of the certified warehousing and distribution specialist program will receive their certificates in front of peers, instructors, family and friends.
 

“We are so proud of our employees,” said Ginger Falconer, human resources manager for the refinery. “We knew they were more than capable and are excited that they will be ready and fully trained for the new equipment when it arrives.”

Beginning Monday, Savannah Technical College welcomed the next round of employees, another 24 students began taking classes. The college is on target to assess and train an expected 300 Imperial Sugar employees in short-term certificate programs in manufacturing and logistics before the plant reopens for distribution.
