Special to the Herald

Craig Johnson is a small-business owner seeking the opportunity to serve as the 4th District Commissioner for Effingham County. He was born in Columbia, South Carolina in 1967. Craig has lived in Effingham for 41 years. He graduated from Effingham County High School and Savannah Tech, leading him to his work with Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC). Craig is the owner and operator of Johnson’s Refrigeration and will soon open Stillwell Pines, an event venue located on Stillwell Road in Springfield. He is the proud father of three adult children, Blake, Brooke, and Breanna. Brooke and her husband, Hunter, will welcome their first child in August. Because of his commitment to all citizens, Craig is dedicated to ensuring that Effingham County is a safe, nurturing, and thriving community for the near future and beyond.

Craig has had the privilege to be heavily involved with community organizations for the past 30 years. He has attended Effingham County Commissioner meetings for many years to remain an informed member of our community. To support students and their parents in our school system, Craig served as a member of the school council for Effingham County Middle School (Chair) and Effingham County High School. During this time, he increased his focus to support members of this community by serving for six years on the Effingham County Board of Equalization. In addition, he has served as the chairman of the Effingham County Recreation Board for the past 15 years. Craig served (co-chaired) on the FERST Books Foundation and the Olde Effingham Days’ Festival committee. He served as a coach for the Effingham County Recreation Department and was inducted into the 2019 Effingham County Recreation Sports Hall of Fame.

Craig prioritizes the opportunity to give back to a community that has supported him and his family. As an active member (Past Master) of the Springfield Masonic Lodge for 30 years, Craig values the work that this organization does to support local food pantries, childrens’ homes, local law enforcement, and first responders. He has also assisted with school-related events, such as cooking for the senior class for over 10 years and the Special Olympics/Family Fun Day.

Craig is ready to step up, take a seat at the table, and become even more informed and involved within this community. He is dedicated to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to represent and support the needs of the citizens in this county. With Craig’s experience, integrity, and dedication, he will be the most effective 4th District County Commissioner to help make decisions that impact all families in Effingham County.
