An Effingham County man died in a motorcycle crash early Saturday morning.

Frank Lewis, 28, of Guyton was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at McCall Road near Blue Jay Road, according to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

Lewis was riding his motorcycle north on McCall Road toward Blue Jay Road around 1 a.m. “at a high rate of speed when he lost control and hit a tree,” said ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

Lewis was thrown from the motorcycle. No other vehicles were involved.

Along with speed being a factor in the wreck, Ehsanipoor said, investigators found alcohol at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Effingham County Sheriff's Office traffic enforcement team.

Lewis’ crash was the latest in a trend of fatal wrecks in Effingham County.

The fatal motorcycle crash occurred just hours into the Memorial Day holiday weekend. More people than usual traveled local roads Friday-Monday, to visit family, head to the beach or attend graduation celebrations.

Ehsanipoor offered advice over the weekend that he hopes will be heeded year-round.

“Those who are going to be responsible still need to be aware of those who are not being responsible,” Ehsanipoor said. “Just because you’re driving safely doesn’t mean others are.”
