A mobile home where eight people lived was damaged in a fire Monday that appears to have been intentionally set, according to investigators.

Fire crews and deputies responded to the fire in the 2300 block of Courthouse Road just before noon. The mobile home sustained “moderate damage” on the outside and smoke and water damage on the inside, said Effingham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

The incident was ruled an arson by ECSO fire investigator Dan Mealor. It remains under investigation.

“We do believe that this house was targeted and it’s not a random act,” Ehsanipoor said.

The eight people living at the mobile home included four children, according to Ehsanipoor. Children were home when the fire started, he said, but no injuries were reported.
