A convicted felon was arrested Thursday on charges he molested a child in Effingham County.

Jason Andrew Hilliard, 38, of Savannah was jailed on a warrant accusing him of molesting a 6-year-old child, according to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

The ECSO declined to state Hilliard’s relationship to the 6-year-old in order to protect the child’s identity.

Hilliard was charged with child molestation and booked into the Effingham County Jail. He was denied bond in court Friday.

The ECSO investigated the case for several months and obtained the warrant for Hilliard’s arrest “after multiple interviews were conducted and evidence was collected,” said spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

Hilliard was arrested in Chatham County. He had been living in Savannah for the past few months after committing the crime while living in Effingham, according to Ehsanipoor.

Hilliard was on probation for his previous felony arrest. Ehsanipoor was unsure of the nature of those charges.

“We are working with the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office where we might revoke his first-offender status for his previous charges,” Ehsanipoor said.

The ECSO’s criminal investigations division is still working the case.
