A Blichton woman is in jail after she scuffled with clerks of a convenience store authorities said she robbed Friday night.

Linda Teresa Underwood, 45, is in the Effingham County Jail, where she is being held without bond. Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies arrested her and charged her with robbery in a reported holdup of a Sunoco convenience store on Highway 21 South.

Deputies were called to the convenience store at approximately 10:30 p.m. on a report of a robbery that had just occurred. According to the store clerks, a heavy-set, older, white female entered into the store and demanded money and acted as if she had a firearm. The clerks chased the suspect into the parking lot after she obtained cash from the register.

The clerks fought with the woman, tackling her to the ground in the parking lot as she was trying to flee to her getaway vehicle. She was still able to get away in her vehicle after the struggle.

Deputies were on scene within minutes and were able to place a lookout on the suspect vehicle. A short time later, a patrol deputy located a vehicle that matched the suspect’s vehicle on Blue Jay Road.

Further investigation revealed that the driver, Underwood, had robbed the store. Underwood, who is also a convenience store clerk, according to the ECSO, received minor injuries from the struggle with the store clerks.
