Effingham County Sheriff’s investigators have arrested a Springfield man and charged him with loitering and prowling, trespassing and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

An Effingham sheriff’s patrol deputy located a suspicious vehicle that contained a large amount of copper on Goldkist Road. The deputy called for addition units to the scene. Effingham County deputies located the man, 38-year-old Jimmy Sykes, in the area. Sykes fled from them but was apprehended a short time later.

This area has been plagued with property crimes such as copper thefts and deputies have been conducting extra patrol in the area. Detectives are following leads and say that Sykes is fully cooperating with the investigation. Surveillance cameras have not revealed that any other people were with Sykes. Investigators are still checking to see if he is related to any other thefts in that area.

Sykes may face additional charges.
