Deputies search for early morning robber of Hot Spot

Effingham County Sheriff’s Office investigators are searching for a man who is reported to have held up a convenience store at gunpoint early Saturday morning.

According to reports, a black male entered the Hot Spot at Highway 80 and Old River Road and demanded money from the clerk on duty after 3 a.m. Saturday.

The suspect placed his hand under his shirt as if he had a gun, though the clerk told deputies a gun was not produced. The suspect left the store with an undetermined amount of cash.

The clerk was not harmed in the incident and there was no one else in the store at the time.

The suspect was said to have a ski mask on and was wearing jeans and a white T-shirt.

Investigators are still looking for the suspect. Anyone with any information is asked to call the ECSO at 754-3449.
