Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Bluffton man and recovered a vehicle that was stolen out of South Carolina early Tuesday morning.

Shortly before 2 a.m., an Effingham County Sheriff’s deputy was conducting a business check while on routine patrol at a convenience store.
The deputy saw four suspicious individuals walking away from the store toward the road.

As the deputy attempted to identify the subjects, an adult male, later identified as Joseph Grayson Ward III, fled on foot. After a foot chase, deputies were able to subdue Ward with a taser and take him into custody.

Ward, 20, of Bluffton, was arrested and charged with theft by receiving stolen property, theft by bringing stolen property into the state, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, interference with custody and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

It was discovered that Ward was in possession of 2009 Honda Accord that was stolen out of Beaufort County, S.C., just hours before he was arrested. Ward was accompanied by three juveniles, a 13-year-old and two 14-year-olds, all from South Carolina.

Deputies returned the juveniles back to their guardians.
