ECSO searching for armed robbery suspects

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is looking for two suspects in an armed robbery in Springfield early Thursday morning.

According to investigators, two black men wearing masks and armed with handguns entered a Mockingbird Drive house shortly after midnight. The gunmen came in through an unlocked screen door.

The suspects demanded money from the two adults who were in the living room, and took an undisclosed amount of cash. The men appear to have targeted that specific house to rob, according to the ECSO.

“We do not believe that this was a random act,” said ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor. “We believe the offenders know the victims, and they knew the money was there.”

Along with the two adults, four children were inside the home, Ehsanipoor said. No one was injured.

Investigators are “following leads” in the case, Ehsanipoor said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office at 754-3449.
