A routine traffic stop in the middle of Highway 21 Friday resulted in the arrest of a Clyo man for drug possession, among other charges.

At approximately 10:32 a.m., Officer Warren of the Rincon Police Department attempted to stop a black Cadillac driven by 32-year-old Kenneth C. Griffin of 158 Carroll Ave., Clyo, for a traffic violation. Griffin got out of his vehicle in the middle of heavy traffic on 21 and fled on foot, leaving the car abandoned in the turn lane in front of the Rincon Walmart.

After a brief foot pursuit, Officer Warren caught Griffin behind Fort Howard Square and placed him under arrest. A large amount of cash and marijuana was found on Griffin. An inventory of his automobile resulted in officers also finding cocaine.

Griffin was taken to the Effingham County Jail by the Rincon Police Department. Griffin has been charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, fleeing, attempting to elude, and reckless driving.
