Man in custody after stabbing incident

One man is in jail after stabbing another in north Effingham County on Friday afternoon.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., deputies were called to the Effingham Hospital emergency room on a report of an individual who had been stabbed.

Deputies made contact with the victim, George Gibbs of Clyo, who indicated he had been stabbed in the 200 block of Mt. Pleasant Road. Gibbs, who sustained more than one stab wound, was rushed to Memorial University Medical Center with serious injuries.

A short time later, deputies arrested Anderson Fields, 49, of Clyo, in connection with the stabbing.

Fields has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.

Fields is currently being held in the Effingham County Jail.

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
