More charges for man arrested on Rincon warrant

A Savannah man wanted on warrants from Rincon was arrested Saturday morning after a two-hour standoff with the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s SWAT team.

Justin Creed Van Arsdale, 24, and Michael Eugune Smart, 28, of Statesboro were arrested at Van Arsdale’s mobile home off Quacco Road on Red Cedar Court.

According to the SCMPD, the SWAT team was called in after Van Arsdale barricaded himself inside his home. Smart also was at the residence but surrendered. Van Arsdale hid under the trailer until a SCMPD K9 apprehended him.

Van Arsdale was treated for a bite wound and transferred to the Effingham County Jail.  He has been charged with theft by receiving after SCMPD detectives learned a pickup load of wire was stolen from a Pooler construction site. Metro detectives found $20,000 worth of wire in Van Arsdale’s residence, according to the SCMPD. He also has been charged with theft by receiving.
