Effingham County Sheriff’s investigators say foul play was not a factor in the death of a Clyo man whose body was found Sunday morning.

Horace Wallace, 56, died in an apparent hunting accident near Edwards Loop in northern Effingham County. A preliminary autopsy performed at the state crime lab in Savannah ruled out foul play. Wallace apparently fell out of a tree stand.

“He lived in that area,” said Effingham Sheriff’s Detective David Ehsanipoor.

Wallace had gone hunting Saturday, about 50 yards into the tree line. When he didn’t come home Saturday night, relatives became concerned.

“They hadn’t seen him all night long,” Ehsanipoor said.

Wallace’s body was found early Sunday morning in a wooded area by neighbors.

“We don’t suspect any foul play was involved,” Ehsanipoor said.
