A Savannah man pled guilty Monday in Effingham County Superior Court to a felony charge of sexual exploitation of children.

Dale Andrew Davis, 22, of Savannah, pleaded guilty to distributing videos that depicted a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to Effingham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

Judge F. Gates Peed sentenced Davis to 10 years of probation, with 120 to 180 days to serve, a $2,000 fine, and banishment from Effingham County, according to court documents. Davis must register as a sex offender and must report on Dec. 27.

Davis was one of five men who were arrested in a child pornography sweep in April in Effingham and Chatham counties by the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force of the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, Ehsanipoor said.

Davis was indicted Aug. 1 for distributing a video of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. His attorneys had filed a motion to quash his indictment as unconstitutionally vague and had filed a motion to dismiss for lack of venue.

William Oldfield of Springfield pleaded guilty in September to charges of child pornography.

Also arrested in the sweep were Joshua Conner, Soufi Mahmoud and Jose Gomez of Savannah.

Led by Investigator Joe Heath, the ICAC Task Force investigated the cases for several months before making the arrests. The suspects were found to be not only downloading child pornography, but also sharing it on the Internet. The images found on their computers included photos and videos — “up to a few hundred images” in some cases, according to investigators.

From the five homes, the ECSO seized 10 desktop computers, three laptops, one tablet, six cell phones and five gaming consoles.
