Effingham County Sheriff's deputies are searching for a suspect who led deputies on a vehicle pursuit down Goshen Road early Thursday morning and assaulted a sheriff's deputy.

Deputies are still on the lookout for Fabian Armendariz, 23, of Rincon. Deputies believe that Armendariz may still be in the area, possibly South Carolina.

A patrol deputy observed a Chevy Tahoe traveling at a high rate of speed and driving reckless when he attempted to make a traffic stop.

After the vehicle was pulled over and the deputy attempted to block the driver in, he became combative with the deputy and fled into the woods. He was partially tased during the struggle.

Armendariz is facing multiple charges including battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and attempting to elude, felony obstruction and reckless driving.
