Standoff ends in arrest

An Effingham County man wanted on several warrants was arrested Thursday morning.

Investigators received information that Brian Butler, 33, of Eden was at his girlfriend’s house on Ohoopee Avenue in Meldrim, said Effingham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor. After a short-lived standoff, Butler surrendered to ECSO deputies.

“It was brief,” Ehsanipoor said. “He didn’t want to come out of the house, but he eventually came out.”

The ECSO had been looking for Butler after its drug suppression unit found “a large amount of crack cocaine and marijuana” at his Eden home in the 100 block of Shady Oaks Lane, Ehsanipoor said.

Butler is on probation from a 2012 arrest in Effingham County. He was charged then with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and a parole violation.

Butler is being held in the Effingham County Jail.
