Suspects arrested in post office robbery

Effingham County Sheriff's deputies have arrested three men in connection with the Oct. 14 robbery of the Eden post office.

Brian Bacon, 18, of Pembroke, and Charles Pretlow, 17, of Statesboro, have been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and conspiracy to commit a crime. Thermon Gaines, 19, of Pembroke, has been charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The Effingham County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Postal Inspectors have been following leads since the robbery, which took place just before noon on Oct. 14. Both agencies received assistance from the Pembroke Police Department and the Bryan County Sheriff's Office.

All three suspects are being held in the Effingham County Jail.

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
