One man is in jail after he accidentally shot a teenager at his home on Christmas night.
At approximately 8 p.m., Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on Shari Drive on a report of a person shot. Deputies found a 14-year-old juvenile with a gunshot wound to his upper thigh.
The teenager was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center with non life threatening injuries from the .22-caliber semiautomatic’s bullet.
Deputies arrested Robert Edwards, 21, of Guyton, who has been charged with reckless conduct, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and discharging a firearm within 300 yards of a residence.
Deputies do not believe Edwards intended to shoot the child but believe he did violate Georgia law and used poor judgment. Edwards was taken to the Effingham County Jail.
