Georgia’s Department of Public Safety recorded 3,089 traffic accidents on state roads over the 102-hour Thanksgiving holiday, which ended Sunday at midnight.

There were 13 fatalities among the wrecks and 730 injuries. Both figures were lower than Department of Public Safety projections and lower than the totals from the 2008 Thanksgiving holiday period.

Estimates put the number of crashes at 3,570, with 1,398 injuries and 16 fatalities expected. The totals for 2008 were 3,815 crashes with 1,457 injuries and 19 deaths.

The highest number of fatalities for the weekend occurred in the Georgia State Patrol’s Troop D, which covers west central Georgia. Law enforcement agencies there investigated five traffic deaths over the weekend.
