Troopers probe 14 August wrecks

State troopers from the Rincon Post of the Georgia State Patrol investigated 14 traffic crashes during August in  Effingham County.

Sgt. 1st Class Chad Riner said the traffic crashes resulted in nine injuries and one traffic death.

SFC Riner said troopers from Post 42 also issued 111 traffic citations in the county during the month. The total includes three arrests for driving under the influence, 41 citations for speeding, 30 seat belt violations and one child restraint violation.

Troopers also issued 180 warnings.

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
