Two people are dead after an early-morning chase that ended on Highway 21 in Rincon.

The names of the two people killed — both in the car that led law enforcement authorities on the pursuit — have not been released yet.

The chase started in Chatham County, and Georgia State Patrol troopers asked Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies for assistance. A deputy set out spike strips on Highway 21 northbound before its intersection with 4th Street.

The suspects’ car drove toward the deputy to avoid the spike strips, according to authorities, and collided with a sports utility vehicle. The suspects’ car, a Kia, had collided with three other vehicles during the pursuit.

No serious injuries were reported from the suspects involvement with other vehicles.
