RINCON -- The doors of First Baptist Church of Rincon are open for everyone. That was evident Thursday night when it hosted "Love One Another," an event designed to build a unified community during these tumultuous times.

About 100 people from different denominations and races gathered in the sanctuary to pray for healing of the nation's giant wounds caused by fragmented politics and cultural differences. They also read poems and sang together.

"This is a first step," First Baptist Pastor Dr. Gary Lewis said during his opening remarks.

Lewis and other pastors and priests from Effingham County churches urged the audience to look inward, reminded it that it is unified in the body of Christ. The pastors also pointed to the Great Commandment: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

The event ended with the group going outside to sing "I Need You to Survive," "Amazing Grace" and "We Shall Overcome."
