The Effingham County High School Drama Club hosted three presentations of the Rodgers and Hammerstein beloved musical ‘The Sound of Music’ with performances on March 31, April 1 and April 2.

Under the direction of advisor Ivonne Osella, the students involved worked tirelessly over several months to delight the audience with their amazing talents.

The cast was led by senior Hannah Dodson in the role of Maria Rainer.

Dodson, an experienced actress, was phenomenal as Maria, showing her wide vocal range with ease and confidence.

Seniors Adam Osella and Shelby Burgess had outstanding performances as Georg Von Trapp and Max Detweiller, respectively.

The nuns of the Abess were led by Alayna Usher as Mother Abbess, whose solo, Climb Every Mountain, at the end of Act I left the audience with chills.

Summer Smith, Laurel Pate and Cathryn Ragan harmonized beautifully with Usher as Sisters Berte, Maragaretta and Sophia.

The Von Trapp children were played by Micaiah Bolton (Liesel), Naomi Wright (Friedrich), Taylor Chumley (Louisa), Collyn Ward (Kurt), Jordan Vick (Brigitta), Delainey Bolton (Marta) and Charley Jane Burgess ( Gretl).

Micaiah Bolton excelled in the role of Liesel and displayed her amazing vocal talents throughout the play.

Amberly Burgess was remarkable as Elsa Schraeder, her self-importance most evident through Burgess’s dramatic talents.

The backstage crew also deserves applause.

The lighting and sound people worked tirelessly throughout the play. The sets were colorful, well-built, and showed off the artistic talents of all those who worked to create them.

Effingham County High School is fortunate to have someone like Mrs. Osella who is willing to spend so many afternoons and nights working with these students, allowing them the opportunity to showcase their many talents.

The community is lucky to have the opportunity to view a play of this superior quality. Congratulations once again to Mrs. Osella and the entire cast and crew of the ECHS Drama Club for another amazing production.
