Special to the Herald

At the request of the Rincon Police Department, the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on GA Highway 21 South on July 20, at approximately 11 a.m.

The pedestrian has been identified as Jo Ann Dorris of Rincon.

Deputies with the ECSO Traffic Unit arrived on scene, began investigating, and interviewed witnesses. It was determined that Dorris was struck by a vehicle when she entered the roadway.

Preliminary findings determined that Dorris was struck approximately two feet into the travel lane. The collision caused Dorris to fall to the ground and the vehicle continued forward over her until coming to a complete stop.

Dorris was transported to Memorial Trauma Center in Savannah with serious injuries.

This investigation is ongoing.

Local TV station WTOC reports Dorris was walking to work at Zaxby’s when the accident happened.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for Dorris’ recovery expenses: bit.ly/3WmqDkQ.
