SPRINGFIELD – Looking for something to do with the kids during Spring Break? A local Easter tradition is set to continue April 4.
Effingham County Recreation and Sports Management will conduct an egg hunt at the athletic complex at 808 GA Hwy 119 South.
“We’ve been doing it for at least 20 years,” ECRSM Director Ryan Sanders said. “We usually have between 150 and 175 kids. It’s a pretty big event.”
The egg hunt is for children 12 and under. Registration is required. Parents and guardians can register their children for the egg hunt at www.effinghamrec.recdesk.com.
“We split them by age groups in the outfields of the baseball fields,” Sanders said. “That way we can have the little ones separated from the older ones. We spread out eggs across the outfields and turn them loose.”
Participants will receive a goody bag and a drink.
“It will be BYOB this year – bring your own basket,” Sanders said. “Last year, we were fortunate to have somebody donate a bunch of baskets to us and we made up our goody bags in the baskets. We didn’t get that fortunate this year, but we will have the goody bags for the kids.
“We also have some inflatables scheduled to be here.”
The inflatables will be available at 5:30 p.m.
“We’ll probably start the actual egg hunt around 5:45 or 6 o’clock,” Sanders said. “We’ll get everybody where they need to be and it only takes a couple minutes for them to grab up all the eggs.”
At the end of the hunt, the children are welcome to continue to play on the inflatables.
“It usually lasts about an hour, maybe an hour and a half,” Sanders said.
