Effingham County Spring Run set for March 1

SPRINGFIELD – The 48th edition of one of Sports and Recreation Services’ most popular events is almost here.

The Jacan Brown/Coca-Cola Spring Run is slated March 1 at the Effingham County Board of Education Annex Gym at 405 N. Ash St. It will feature a 1-mile run/walk and 5K run.

Sports and Recreation services is aiming to have 200 runners registered by Feb. 17. Those who do will receive a t-shirt.

The 1-mile run/walk, which has a $15 registration fee, will start at 8 a.m. The 5K, with a $20 fee, will begin at 8:45 a.m.

Register at www.savannahraces.com.  There will be no registration on race day.

First- and second-place trophies will also be awarded for each age division (male and female). The school with the most participants will also receive a trophy.

Divisions in the 1-mile run/walk include 6 & under, 8 & under, 10 & under, 12 & under, 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 & over. The 5K categories 9 & under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 & over.

The event will proceed regardless of weather conditions. PowerAde and water will be available.
