GUYTON -- It wasn't necessary to look at the scoreboard to determine which team won Friday night's girls basketball game at South Effingham. The visiting coach's face reflected the outcome just as well.

Katie Fleming was all smiles after her Effingham County Lady Rebels stunned the Lady Mustangs 72-60 for their second straight victory.

"It was nice to see a lot of happy faces in the locker room at halftime instead of frustration," Fleming said. "Hopefully this will be a springboard for us the rest of the season. This was by far the best we've played all year."

Effingham County also won the boys game. The Rebels came out on top 69-56 after falling behind 16-0 in the first period.

"That was scary," Effingham County coach Jake Darling said about the Mustangs' early spurt. "We definitely battled back. We started out flat those first six or seven minutes of the first quarter."
