RINCON — Hodges Strawberry Farm is offering a way to help people that will surely produce fruit.

On May 21 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., the proceeds from all strawberry sales at the you-pick facility will be donated to The Lily and the Sparrow, a mission organization.

“Our mission is to empower people to transform their communities with the gospel,” said Ellyn Hunt, director of The Lily and the Sparrow. “We are a faith-based nonprofit. We started in 2014.

“My husband (Chris) and I lived as missionaries in Peru so we got started there in South America, and since then we have expanded to have mission projects in Brazil and Haiti.”

The Lily and the Sparrow has a special connection to Hodges Strawberry Farm, which is located at 8705 Ga. Hwy 21, Newington.

“It belongs to my dad, (Eddie Hodges)” Hunt said.

Hunt and her husband will be at the event with board members from The Lily and the Sparrow.

“We will have tents set up and we will be selling T-shirts, too, to raise money,” Hunt said. “We will also have some devotion books and things like that. We will have a couple tables set up out there.”

In addition to its central mission, The Lily and the Sparrow provides annual scholarships for children in Haiti.

“And we have two churches that we have planted in Brazil to so support their funtion, paying for the buildings and providing Bibles,” Hunt said. “In Peru, we work with girls who are on the streets. We help them get out of that kind of work and start businesses or find safe jobs.”

Hunt, 32, and her spouse have performed mission work since they were in college.

“We are 12 years into it and we started our own nonprofit in 2014,” she said. “We have three kids and they come with us onto the mission field. This summer, we will be in Brazil and Peru connecting with our teams there.”

The Lily and the Sparrow has a small team of staff members in each country it serves.

“God has really blessed it,” Hunt said. “It’s been really awesome.”
