Effingham County Fire Rescue will conduct a fire demonstration Thursday at 3 p.m. at Ulmer Ballfield (behind the Effingham County Commissioner’s Building. The event will focus on the proper use of fire extinguishers and the dangers of turkey fryers.

Effingham County Fire Rescue and the National Fire Protection Association discourage the use of outdoor gas-fueled turkey fryers that immerse turkeys in hot oil. 

This demonstration is to show the dangers associated with consumer use of these fryer,s which can lead to devastating burns, other injuries and destruction of property. 

ECFR and NFPA urge those who prefer fried turkey to seek professional establishments for the preparation of the dish or consider using a new “oil-less” turkey fryer.
