Four officers quit without notice
Rincon patch

RINCON -- The Rincon Police Department lost four officers to resignation Wednesday. All four resigned effective immediately without any notice.

Two of the officers were scheduled to work Wednesday. The department pulled together and covered the gaps left by the departures by shifting duties and through the use of overtime.

Interim Chief Jonathon Murrell sent a memo to the rest of the department Wedesday to thank the officers for their hard work and flexibility during the transition. Murrell, who completed chief training last week, recently succeeded Mark Gerbino, who resigned abruptly last month.

All four officers who resigned were hired by Gerbino. Three of them were still serving their probationary period.

Gerbino was chief in Rincon for 10 months and lost eight officers to resignation and two were terminated.

The department is seeking qualified officers to fill the vacancies. Rincon officers recently received an increase in pay and benefits.
