Georgia State Patrol troopers are investigating what led to a vehicle full of teenagers flipping over several times early Sunday morning, killing one of the teens and seriously injuring two others.

A 911 call was made at 2:47 a.m. Sunday to report a Geo Tracker had wrecked near the intersection of Stillwell-Clyo Road and Laurel Tree Road.

The driver, 18-year-old Robert Stone, lost control of the vehicle, which flipped several times. All six people in the vehicle were ejected, according to GSP Cpl. Tommy Barron.

“He lost control, causing it to overturn,” Barron said.

Killed in the accident was Whitney Newman, 17. Two others were seriously hurt. One of the teens is in critical intensive care at Memorial Health University Center in Savannah and another is in serious but stable condition at Memorial, according to reports. Three others, including the driver, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.

Barron said charges have not been filed yet but charges are pending. A blood sample has been taken from the driver and those results also are pending.
