GUYTON -- Riggs Funeral Home announced Tuesday that it undergone its first ownership chance since opening in 1999.
James and Liz Carlson completed paperwork to become the proud new owners Thursday afternoon.
The Carlsons own Carlson & Co. in Springfield. It is a full-service event planning company, florist and boutique agency located at 405 N. Laurel St.
Although this venture is not within the realm of the wedding industry, James Carlson is committed to serving the community and confident in the ideals in which the funeral stands.
“My goal is to be with people while they are at their best and their worst,” he said. “I cannot think of better industries to accomplish this than weddings and funerals.”
In addition to the new owners, the funeral home will be rebranded from Riggs Funeral Home to Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home. The rebrand process consists of implementing a new logo and updating the current website. These updates are set to be complete by the end of January.
Despite these changes, Carlson is committed to maintaining the quality of service and legacy of the Riggs’ family. Heather Riggs, the current lead funeral director, will remain in her position and oversee the day-to-day events.
“Being a sole business owner has been an awesome experience,” Riggs said. “However, I am excited for the support and opportunities that come when you work as a team, especially one as awesome as the Carlsons.”
The funeral home is dedicated to providing professional support as it assists members of the community in establishing plans for individuals after they pass away. It offers memorial, burial and cremation services, and expert advice on funeral planning.
