GSP, other agencies investigating 17 holiday traffic deaths

There were 17 traffic deaths across the state during the Christmas holiday period, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.


Georgia State Patrol troopers investigated 685 accidents from 6 p.m. Dec. 21-midnight Dec. 25 that resulted in 300 injures and 11 deaths, and other agencies investigated six fatalities.


GSP troopers investigated 289 crashes over the same period in 2011. Those incidents resulted in 182 injuries and one death. Statewide, there were four traffic deaths over the 2011 Christmas holiday period.


The New Year’s holiday travel period begins tonight at 6 p.m. and ends Jan. 1. Like the Christmas holiday travel period, the New Year’s travel period is 102 hours long.
