Stormy weather was responsible for a sewage spill in Guyton on Wednesday night.

A lightning strike to the force main, the pressurized main water and sewer pipe, caused a sewage spill at 209 Lynn Bonds Avenue at 7:30 p.m., according to city of Guyton officials.

Public works superintendent Mike O’Neal said the sewage spill was “minor” and city crews responded within 30 minutes of the lightning strike.

O’Neal estimated the discharge from the spill at 4,320 gallons. Power to the sewer lift station was disconnected immediately after workers arrived and was restored when repairs were completed, O’Neal said.

Those affected had service restored by 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according to O’Neal.
