Guyton Police Chief Kelphie Lundy has been removed from his position effective immediately. The announcement came Monday during a Guyton City Council meeting.

Lundy was given the option to resign and chose not to, so Mayor Jeff Lariscy terminated his employment.

Lundy came to serve as the Guyton Police Chief after working for the Statesboro Police Department for more than 13 years.

The Guyton City Council has to vote to confirm Lundy’s termination and will discuss it at the next council meeting in March. The date of this meeting has not been confirmed yet.

Captain Stacy Strickland has been named the interim police chief.
