RINCON — Effingham County had plenty of reasons to celebrate in 2017.

Two of the biggest involved the homecoming of a pair of heroes — injured soldier Winston Hencely and World Series champion Josh Reddick.

Fused by the skillful hands of surgeons and the power of prayer, Hencely's formerly tattered body is rejuvenating beyond the expectations of medical experts after he was grievously wounded in Afghanistan. He was honored with a parade in Apri after returning to his home near Ebenezerl.

Reddick was feted with a pep rally at his alma mater, South Effingham High School, and the City of Springfield after helping the Houston Astros win their first world championship in November.
