Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Richard A. Mallard is running for re-election, having qualified Monday.

The Ogeechee Judicial Circuit includes Bulloch, Effingham, Jenkins and Screven counties.

First elected in 2002, Mallard has over 28 tears’ experience as a prosecutor, serving 11 of those years as chief assistant of the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit.  He also worked as assistant solicitor in Cobb County and as an assistant district attorney of the Eastern Judicial Circuit in Chatham County.

“I have a strong commitment to fair, impartial and effective enforcement of the laws of the State of Georgia,” he said Friday. “This office has worked closely with state and local law enforcement to successfully prosecute crimes and serve victims in Bulloch, Effingham, Jenkins and Screven counties.  I look forward to continuing my service to the people of this circuit in the same manner as I have since 1991.”

Mallard graduated from Statesboro High School and Georgia Southern University. He is a member and past president of the Downtown Statesboro Rotary Club; a member of the Georgia District Attorney’s Association and the National District Attorney’s Association.

For the past 24 years he has served as a trial advocacy instructor for the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council of Georgia.

Mallard and his wife Janet have three children and are active members of the First Baptist Church of Statesboro.
