South Effingham's percussion section was dubbed the best in Saturday's 37th Annual Coastal Empire Classic at Rebel Field.

SPRINGFIELD -- The South Effingham Marching Mustangs were superior in every way during Saturday's 37th Annual Coastal Empire Classic at Effingham County High School's Rebel Field.

The Marching Mustangs earned superior ratings in the color guard, percussion, drum major, music, visual, general effect and overall categories. South Effingham's percussionists were named the best from a group of bands that included Jenkins County, Brantley County, Savannah Christian, New Hampstead, Long County, Liberty County, Jeff Davis, Bradwell Institute, May River (S.C.), Southeast Bulloch, Statesboro, Glynn Academy, Temple, Brunswick and Colleton County (S.C.).

The Marching Mustangs finished second in color guard and drum major.

Colleton County was named the overall champion. South Effingham was the runner-up.

Effingham County did not compete but performed its halftime routine before the awards ceremony.

 


Rincon City Council Approves First Pay Raise in 14 Years

Rincon City Council voted unanimously Monday to approve its first pay raise in 14 years, increasing council members’ pay to $750 per month and the mayor’s pay to $950 per month starting next year. The raises will apply to those elected in November, when three council seats and the mayor’s office will be on the ballot.
