Mars Theatre to close during expansion

After the credits for "Dunkirk" roll Saturday, the Mars Theatre in Springfield will close its doors. It is set to reopen for an a cappella holiday concert featuring Eclipse 6 on Dec. 2.

Springfield City Council approved plans to add 3,000 square feet to the back and side of the theatre.

City Manager Brett Bennett said, “The upcoming expansion will allow us to bring larger acts into the theatre. The existing stage can accommodate single performers or small acts but doesn’t give room for larger bands or theatrical performances. Currently, our artists must use city council chambers to change and eat before shows. It will be nice to have everything under one roof.”
